Discover scuba diving with PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD)
Do you dream of living a unique underwater experience and plunging into a marine universe?
PADI’s Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) program is specially designed for those wishing to learn the basics of scuba diving, and the techniques needed to fully enjoy this open-water activity. When you take part in a scuba diving experience with this program, you’ll discover the wonders of the underwater world while taking part in training and courses led by certified instructors.
Ideal for beginners and divers of all levels, the DSD offers you the opportunity to learn the basics of scuba diving in complete safety, thanks to specially adapted equipment and specific skills. During this adventure, you’ll be accompanied by a specialized center, able to provide all the equipment needed for the activities planned during these exciting courses.
The key stages of PADI Discover Scuba Diving: a progressive introduction to the various technical skills
The DSD session, supervised by a competent instructor, usually lasts half a day and includes several important steps to familiarize you with the world of scuba diving:
- Theoretical introduction :
During this first stage, the instructor introduces you to the fundamentals of scuba diving, such as the safety rules for using the boat and diving equipment. It also introduces the equipment needed for the various dives organized by the center. - Preparation in a protected environment :
Participants are introduced to breathing with compressed air cylinders during practical exercises in a pool or confined space. You’ll also learn to move easily underwater and develop the technical skills needed to dive safely in this aquatic activity. - Real immersion experience :
Once participants have acquired the basic skills in the various group sessions, they set off on a real open-water dive in a natural environment aboard a specially designed boat. It’s a unique opportunity to get to know aquatic life and explore the fascinating places specific to this underwater adventure, leading to the coveted certification one day.
PADI Discover Scuba Diving: an opportunity to become a certified diver
It’s important to stress that the DSD program is not a diving certification in itself, but an essential step on the road to achieving the level required to be awarded this prestigious title. Nevertheless, this experience can be credited if you decide to continue your training and obtain a PADI Open Water Diver (OWD) certificate during the various baptism groups and dives.
No special requirements to take part in PADI Discover Scuba Diving
The DSD is open to everyone, whatever their age or level of physical fitness, and offers a wide range of access to people wishing to take up this challenge, through sessions organized for introductory groups and discovery dives.
However, it is necessary to complete a medical questionnaire in order to check that there are no health problems that would prevent you from scuba diving, and to ensure that the sessions dedicated to baptisms and dives run smoothly.
